IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO PARENTS OF FALL ATHLETES
Each year, the Colorado High School Activities Association (CHSAA) makes policy changes for sports across Colorado. For the upcoming 2018-19 sports season, the Legislative Council voted to move up the start date for Fall Sports by one week, from Monday, August 13th, to Monday, August 6th, which aligns with NFHS. This date is the first official day of practices and try-outs for the following sports, and those with an asterisk* tend to hold try-out camps the week prior to try-outs (July 30-August 4).
Boys Golf has started a week earlier for many years, and recently, the Council moved Football to the same start schedule to accommodate a change in that sport’s playoff schedule, as well as align with NFHS. See the article here.
Lakewood High School will be starting classes for incoming Freshmen on Thursday, August 16, 2018, and all students will report to school on Friday, August, 17, 2018. We understand families may have already made vacation plans that can’t be changed and each sport will need to address that issue.
In addition to the new start date, the Council added four additional required games to softball schedules across the state.
