Boys Golf is a CHSAA 5A competitive, tryout Fall sport, while Girls Golf competes in the Spring. Lakewood’s boys golf team has placed in the top three teams in the State and were the Jeffco League champs!
If you want to tryout for the team, please consider the following information. Because of the difficulty of obtaining tee times at most of the golf courses, the number of players on the team is limited to 15, which is an increase compared to past years. We separate the boys into three teams – Varsity, Junior Varsity and Developmental.
This is a highly-competitive program. Historically speaking, one will have to average below 78 in order to make the top five. Just to make the top 11, one will have to average 90 strokes or less from the blue tees on courses such as Fox Hollow or Foothills. Golfers are encouraged to play as much competitive golf during the summer as possible. There is no substitution for tournament golf where all strokes are counted. If you feel you have a legitimate chance to make the team, you are encouraged to tryout this fall.
Golfers are expected to participate in required practices after school each day and tournaments throughout the season, of which most are during school days. Golf is a sport that costs more than the $185 athletic fee, due to the course fees each time you play.
Athletes may receive a Lakewood “Letter” for a letter jacket by participating in this sport and completing all the lettering requirements set by Jefferson County and at the discretion of the coach.
Golfers are expected to keep their grades up for eligibility. CHSAA rules require schools to run weekly eligibility reports. On the Boys Golf Team we have higher standards and players with one “F-failing” class grade are ineligible to play the following week, though they are expected to practice.
