The LHS Football Program is a 5A CHSAA sport with three teams – Varsity, Junior Varsity and Freshmen. There are tryouts to determine positions and teams. Most freshmen play on the Freshmen Team, but during the season, usually a few Freshmen and JV players are asked to play up, and potentially on two teams.
Once the season starts, players are expected to practice every afternoon (Mon-Fri); and many Saturdays, in addition to participating in games on Thursday/Friday nights and Saturday mornings. There are also team dinners the night before games. There are additional fees associated with the football program. The Football Booster Club provides fundraising activities to help off-set these additional fees.
Players are also expected to keep their grades up for eligibility. CHSAA requires schools to run weekly eligibility reports and any athlete with two “F-failing” class grades will be ineligible to play in the following week’s game, but they are still expected to practice. Students with an “F-Fail” final class grade may be subject to eligibility restrictions.
Varsity level players are eligible to receive an athletic letter in this sport based on the achievement of certain goals and at the coach’s discretion.
The LHS Football Program typically hosts a summer workout and conditioning program, as well as a camp. There is an additional cost for these activities. While not required, they are highly recommended so athletes are prepared physically to endure the game.
The Football program requests that all parents join the Football Boosters to help out throughout the season from bringing food to team dinners, to helping with fundraisers and the end-of-season celebration. Please email the boosters and ask to be put on the email list for up-to-date team information at email@example.com.
