Girls Basketball is a CHSAA 6A competitive/tryout Winter sport. For the past several years, the Lakewood Lady Tigers have earned top spots in the 6A State playoffs, taking the State-Runner-up for the 2016-17 season, and a Final Four team in 2018-19. And during that time they placed, or tied for, first in the the Jefferson County League.
LHS has three teams – Varsity, Junior Varsity and Level III. Team members are selected based on skill, attitude, experience and scholastic eligibility. Team levels are not determined by the athlete’s grade level, and members are required to try-out again, each year. Freshmen can be selected for the Varsity Team. Many of our athletes play on competitive club teams throughout the year, in addition to their high school team
Varsity athletes are eligible to receive a “letter” in this sport by achieving certain criteria and at the head coach’s discretion.
During the Winter Season, players are expected to participate in required practices every day after school (M-F), some Saturdays and breaks, as well as games twice a week and some weekends. During the Spring and Summer there is off-season conditioning and camps. These are optional, but highly recommended so players are physically fit for the season.
Players are expected to keep their grades up for eligibility. CHSAA rules require schools to run weekly eligibility reports and any athlete with two “F-failing” class grades will not play in a game the following week, but they are still expected to practice. Anyone with an “F-Fail” final class grade may be subject to eligibility restrictions.
