Girls Swim & Dive is a CHSAA 5A Winter sport (Boys Swim & Dive is a Spring sport.). It is a competitive/try-out sport and many of the swimmers swim on club swim teams. For the past several years, the team has placed second in the Jeffco League and sent swimmers and divers to the State Championship.

Once the Winter season officially starts in early November, team members are expected to practice every evening (Mon-Fri) and attend meets as assigned which are weekdays and Saturdays. The team typically practices at the Golden Rec Center in the evenings, as that is when space is available. The divers work with a separate coach at Carmody Rec Center and are grouped with other Jeffco divers.

In addition to attending practices, athletes must keep up their grades for eligibility. And they are encouraged to swim in the off-season to maintain their competitive edge. The team also costs more to join as swimmers must pay a pool fee and buy their own swim suits..

At LHS, we only have a varsity level team. While there is no official junior varsity team, athletes are grouped based on their ability and stamina, and assigned to meets based on this and other criteria. Therefore, team members may not always participate in every meet. Check with your coach the day before a meet to confirm whether or not you are expected to compete.

Girls Swim & Dive team members are eligible to receive an Athletic Letter based on points earned throughout the season and at the coach’s discretion.

CHSAA rules require schools to run weekly eligibility reports and any athlete with two “F-failing” grades will not participate in any meet the following week, unless they are able to show they have improved one of their grades to passing. They are still expected to practice. Additionally, athletes who have failed two or more classes are ineligible until they successfully re-take those courses and achieve a passing grade.
