In an 8 team tournament, the Lakewood Tigers finished first overall and won 6 of the 7 individual championships. Other school in the tournament included, Eaglecrest, Grandview, Overland, Bear Creek, Thomas Jefferson, Castle View, and Fountain Ft Carson.
Danny Kingman won at #2 singles without dropping a set and didn’t allow a game in his final match!! Danny Hunter played #3 singles, had a very solid performance without dropping a set either. At #1 doubles the newly minted team of Henry McKinney and Bertie Hoal, won all 3 matches without dropping a set. At #2 doubles Clayton Guevara and Michael Tate came through in a 3rd set tiebreaker to win the tournament. At #3 doubles Tommy Landmark and Adam Abrahamson had some solid wins and were in a battle when the other team had to retire due to an injury. At #4 doubles Sean Bushnell and Christian Medina had to win a third set tie breaker in the semi finals before winning in straight sets in the finals. A special mention for Sean Bushnell, it is the third year in a row he has won at this tournament. Michael Bennett lost a heartbreaking 3rd set tiebreaker in the 1st round and cruised to 2 more wins to win the consolation bracket.
League play begins next week and the Tigers have 2 tough opponents. On Tuesday they host newcomers Valor Christian and on Thursday they travel to Columbine.
